Sheriff’s report – September 2020

Following are excepts of activity reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Thursday, Sept. 30: At 7:01 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson. Michael Christy, 47, of Scranton struck a deer with a 2005 Hyundai Elantra, causing an estimated $1,500 damage to the vehicle. At 6:51 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 2000 block of 260th St in Junction Township. At 10:31 on a deputy arrested Hunter Davis, 22, Elisha Ward, 21, and Scott Picknell, 23, all of Grand Junction, on arrest warrants for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.*

Wednesday, Sept. 29: At 1:23 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with a locating a male subject near the Squirrel Hollow boat ramp. At 3:48 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1100 block of State St in Scranton. At 4:13 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of H Ave in Bristol Township.

Tuesday, Sept. 28: At 10:12 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 700 block of Main St in Scranton.

Monday, Sept. 27: At 6:43 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near J Ave west of Jefferson. Krystal Lloyd, 48, of Glidden struck a deer with a 2011 Toyota Prius, causing an estimated $8,000 in damage to the vehicle. At 9:39 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township. At 10:12 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 4 and 210th St north of Jefferson. Matthew Jacobson, 30, of Churdan struck a deer with a 2017 Chevrolet Spark, causing an estimated $5,000 damage to the vehicle.

Sunday, Sept. 26: At 3:49 am a deputy investigated an accident in the 800 blk of Highway 4. A juvenile driving a 2012 Dodge Avenger left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $14,000.

Saturday, Sept. 25: At 1:13 am a deputy investigated a complaint of individuals doing illegal activities in the parking lot of the Cobblestone Hotel in Jefferson. The deputy located the vehicle on Highway 30 at Highway 4. Charges are pending investigation. At 10:46 am a deputy is investigating a harassment in the 800 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 6:25 pm a deputy responded to a combine fire in the 1700 block of T Ave. The combine was a 1978 John Deere Turbo 7700 owned by Gregory Swecker of Dana. Damage was estimated at $20,000.

Friday, Sept. 24: At 1:05 pm a deputy investigated an accident on Highway 144 and 1st St in Rippey. Gerald Reutter, 80, of Pilot Mound was attempting to cross Hwy 144 in his 2020 Chevrolet Impala and was struck by Jermon McLean, 46, of Schenectady, NY, in his 2019 International semi tractor. Reutter was cited for failure to yield right of way. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $3,000.  Damage to McLean’s tractor-trailer was estimated at $1,000. At 1:16 pm a deputy investigated an accident on I Ave a one-quarter mile south of 150th St in Highland Township. Erica Teed, 33, of Jefferson was northbound in a 2006 Pontiac G6. Mark Blair, 74, of Churdan was southbound driving a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck when he sideswiped Teed’s vehicle. Blair was cited for failure to yield half of right of way. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $2,000. Damage to Teed’s vehicle was estimated at $3,500. At 6:50 pm a deputy was advised of a pig and cow in a yard in the 700 block Glenwood Ave in Bristol  Township.

Thursday, Sept. 23: At 10:12 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1500 block of 225th St in Grant Township. At 2:26 pm a deputy started investigating a theft in the 1000 blk of 8th St in Scranton. At 8:23 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an assault in the 200 block of E. Clark St in Jefferson.

Wednesday, Sept. 22: At 12:28 am the sheriff investigated a hit and run accident near the intersection of 305th St and Terrace Ave in Washington Township. At 7:54 am a deputy responded to cattle on the roadway in the 1600 block of 255th St in Washington Township. At 2:59 pm a deputy assisted the Department of Human Services in Churdan.

Tuesday, Sept. 21: At 6:52 am deputies assisted the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) with a search warrant in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 9:18 am a deputy investigated a headstone that was backed into by a vehicle at the Highland Cemetery in Churdan. At 4:45 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 300 block of 140th St in Cedar Township. At 10:03 pm a deputy investigated a domestic abuse in the 1000 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction

Monday, Sept. 20: At 2:03 am a deputy assisted the Webster County sheriff’s office with a domestic abuse in the 3900 block of Baxter Ave (Webster County).

Sunday, Sept. 19: At 1:55 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a domestic assault in the 300 block of E. Garfield St, Jefferson. At 5:07 pm a deputy investigated a gas drive off at the Paton Pit Stop. At 9:13 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway in the 1700 blk of Highway 144 in Junction Township.

Saturday, Sept. 18: At 7:46 am a deputy investigated an animal complaint in the 800 block of High St in Churdan. At 6:56 pm a deputy performed a traffic stop on 257th Street near Meadow Ave in Greenbrier Township. During the traffic stop, the driver and passenger of the car had a no contact order in place. A male juvenile and Ariea Soll, 18, of Kimballton were arrested for violation of no contact order*.  At 8:48 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 400 block of W. Paton St in Paton. At 10:44 a deputy performed a traffic stop on County Road N-65 (D Ave) and County Road E-19 (140th St) in Cedar Township. During the traffic stop the deputy located marijuana inside the vehicle. The deputy arrested a male juvenile for possession of marijuana.

Friday, Sept. 17: At 9:14 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 400 block of Harding St in Churdan. At 11:43 pm deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with an intoxicated male at Sparky’s.

Thursday, Sept. 16: At 10 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of Main St in Rippey.

Wednesday, Sept. 15: At 7:36 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Rippey.

Tuesday, Sept. 14: At 1:27 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 4 near 250th St south of Jefferson. At 3:14 pm a deputy investigated a vehicle theft in the 700 block of J Ave in Bristol Township.

Monday, Sept. 13: At 10:39 am a deputy investigated a complaint of burning in the 1100 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 12:32 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with locating a missing juvenile from Jefferson. At 1:47 pm a deputy investigated found drug paraphernalia at 7 Hills Park.

Sunday, Sept. 12: At 8:47 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 400 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. Casey Kennedy, 21, of Grand Junction was arrested for two counts of domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury*.

Saturday, Sept. 11: At 4:14 am a deputy assisted the Iowa DNR with a traffic stop in the 800 block of W. Adams St in Jefferson. Jackson Norton, 29, of Stuart was arrested for possession of contraband in a correctional facility and dominion or control of a firearm as a felon*. At 9:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 600 block of B Ave in Cedar Township.

Friday, Sept. 10: At 3:59 am a deputy investigated a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 30 at H Ave east of Scranton. Cain Anderson, 21, of Templeton was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence*. At 9:50 am a deputy arrested Russell Gardner, 46, of Jefferson for a violation of pretrial release. At 10:50 pm a deputy arrested Seth Hankins, 24, of Des Moines for driving while license revoked* on Highway 30 at County Road P-33 (S Ave) west of Grand Junction.

Thursday, Sept. 9: At 7:26 am a deputy assisted with an unruly child in Rippey. At 9:38 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 400 block of Perkins St in Churdan. At 10:36 am a deputy investigated a reported fire on H Ave near County Road E-19 (140th St) in Highland Township that was found to be a controlled burn. At 11:17 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of Hager St in Grand Junction. At 2:35 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2300 block of 130th St in Paton Township. At 4:06 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on Sandoe St near 19th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Sept. 8: At 10:06 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of S. Main St in Paton. At 1:22 pm a deputy assisted with an injured eagle on 120th St near P Ave in Dawson Township. At 2:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 3:48 pm the sheriff investigated a scam in the 400 block of 19th St in Grand Junction. At 4 pm a deputy investigated a possible violation of a no contact order at the Paton-Churdan School. At 7:37 pm a deputy arrested Corey Mutum, 27, of Carroll on an arrest warrant for possession of methamphetamine*.

Tuesday, Sept. 7: At 12:10 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 400 block of Main St E in Grand Junction. At 6:03 am a deputy investigated a railroad crossing issue on 9th St in Grand Junction. At 12:30 pm a deputy arrested Jeffery Holland, 57, of Ames on a warrant for theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. At 7:03 pm a deputy arrested Jason Trotter, 48, of Perry on a warrant for failure to appear*.

Monday, Sept. 6: At 2:32 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 11:49 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on Highway 144 just north of Highway 30 at Grand Junction. Joan Lohman, 61, of Paton lost control of her 2007 Saturn Aura and entered the west ditch, striking a culvert. Lohman was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to her car was estimated at $500.

Sunday, Sept. 5: At 2:29 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 1100 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 4:24 pm a deputy investigated suspicious activity at the Rippey Cemetery. At 8:46 pm a deputy assisted the Carroll Police Department and the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with a search warrant in the 200 block of 3rd St, Bayard.

Saturday, Sept. 4: At 5:13 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of male subject walking nude on U Ave near Rippey. At 7:51 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 11:03 pm a deputy arrested Jose Hernandez Bravo, 26, of Urbandale for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence on Highway 144 near 275th St in Junction Township. At 11:38 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 300 block of Irving St in Scranton.

Friday, Sept. 3: At 4:50 pm a deputy assisted with an unruly child on Sunset Drive in Grand Junction. At 5:13 pm a deputy assisted with an unruly child on E. Percival St in Rippey. At 7:19 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of Rushview Dr in Jefferson. At 7:50 pm a deputy investigated a report of a gunshot on Main St in Scranton.

Thursday, Sept. 2: At 6:12 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 500 block of N Ave (Highway 4) in Dawson Township. Jessica Duong, 29, of Jefferson was arrested for two counts of domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury or mental illness*.

Wednesday, Sept. 1: At 8:39 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block Lincoln St in Scranton. At 3:17 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 2300 block of 290th St in Washington Township. At 11:38 am a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 300 block of 15th St in Grand Junction. At 12:28 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 500 block of N. Cedar St in Jefferson. At 1:19 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on 200th St and X Ave in Junction Township. Steven Neese, 65, of Grand Junction was eastbound on 200th St driving a 2014 Ford F250 pickup truck with a trailer. Danny Steward, 68, of Cleghorn was traveling northbound on X Ave driving a 2006 GMC Yukon. Steward struck the axles of the trailer, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to his vehicle. There were no injuries. Damage to the trailer Neese was towing was estimated at $3,000. Neese was cited for failure to yield right of way. At 6:55 pm deputies assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with the arrest of three suspects in the 100 block of 170th St in Boone County. At 7:33 pm a deputy removed branches from the roadway on Highway 144 near County Road E-18 east of Paton. At 8:41 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
